Cats lose close one to Mavericks, 6-5 District 12-4A play has not been kind to the Whitehouse varsity baseball team as it lost its third one-run game of the year last Monday in Marshall by the score of 6-5. Things looked good for the Wildcats as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead scoring three in the first and pushing a run across in the second. Heath Mayo, who had a 3-3 night at the plate, led the game off with a hit and then scored on a double by Ryan Bell. Seth Cashion then walked and DH, Matt Durst, drove in Bell with a single. Blake Shockley, running for Cashion, was moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Grant Brandon before Kevan House brought him home with a RBI single. The Cats picked up its run in the second as Cody Brown led off with a triple and then scored on May's sacrifice fly to center field. As most of the year has gone for the Wildcats, the bats found scoring runs to be much tougher the next three innings and Marshall began to chip into the lead scoring one run each in the second through fifth innings to tie things up at 4-4 headed into the sixth. Brandon star ted on the mound for the Cats and worked four strong innings before being relieved by Brown in the fifth. Whitehouse took the lead in the top of the sixth as Brady Attaway led off with a double and then scored on Mayo's second RBI of the night to give the Cats a 6-5 lead that stood until the bottom of the seventh. Marshall would not be denied as they came away with two runs on two clutch hits to steal the game away with the 6-5 win. The Wildcats out hit the Mavericks 13-8 for the game but 6 walks came back to haunt them in the close game. |
