Wildcat JV earns 2 wins The Whitehouse JV rode two solid pitching per formances last week to pick up home wins over Henderson and Marshall. In the Monday night game against Henderson, Payton Smith hurled a three hitter, striking out eight in a 6-1 win. Smith also helped his cause at the plate with a 2-run homer. Justin Haynie pitched the seventh to get the save. Also having good nights at the plate were Logan Newton with a hit and scoring two runs while Conner Cashion had a pair of hits and scored two runs. The Friday game against Marshall saw Cashion take the hill for the Wildcats, going five strong innings to get the win 13- 5. Cashion allowed three hits and only one earned run while striking out nine over his five innings of work. Haynie worked two strong innings of relief to finish the game. The Wildcats got on the board early as Cashion helped his cause with a 2-run double to right scoring Newton who led off with a single and Jacob Hilburn who had walked. The Cats then blew things open in the second inning as they scored six more runs. Austin Kea started the inning off with a single to left. He then moved to third on a double by Haney. After a passed ball scored Kea, Skip Caldwell drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left. Newton and Hilburn then both drew walks before Conner Crawford picked up an RBI single. Then Smith drove a pitch to right center for a triple and two RBI's before Cashion grounded out to third to plate Smith. The Cats added another run in the third on an RBI double by Hilburn then scored two more in the bottom the fifth highlighted by a RBI triple by Newton down the right field line. Newton then scored as the throw coming into third base on the hit went wide of the bag allowing him to dash home. The JV will be back in action tomorrow night as they host Kilgore at Wildcat Park. |
