Locals place in Azalea Run

Several Whitehouse runners participated in the Tyler Azalea 10K race Saturday, March 29. The race began at Bergfeld Park with more than 450 participants running the 6.2-mile course on the brick streets surrounded by blooming dogwoods and azaleas.

The race had a neck-and-neck finish with Leonard Tovai, 30, from Henderson inching out Warren Brown, 21, of Tyler, both with a time of 33:37.

Timothy Priest placed second in the 13-16 age division and 11th overall with a time of 39:59.

Rick Uribe placed first in his the 40-44 age division with a time of 39:59, and Matthew Greene placed second in his age division with a time of 42:41.

In conjuntion with the 10K there was also a 2 1/4 mile race. Treven Campbell of Arp, 16, won for the male competitors with a time of 12:41, and Joanna Moran, 8, from Whitehouse won for the females runners with a time of 17:27.
