Sixth-graders do well at UIL competition

The Whitehouse Junior High School Varsity Treble Choir won sweepstakes at the UIL Concert & Sightreading contest on April 1 at SFA. To receive a sweepstakes trophy, a choir must receive a first division rating in both the concert stage performance and sightreading skill portions of the competition. The WJHS choir received unanimous first division ratings from six judges. The treble choir has received a sweepstakes award at UIL for five out of the last six years and has received a first division in concert performance for all six years. Choir members competing at UIL were Fariba Ahmed, Khaliah Alnoimi, Alma Alcantar, Sarah Bessonett, Kelli Beu, Sam Blevins, Amanda Braun, Mackenzie Brown, Tayler Burkett, Sammy Bussel, Alex Crouch, Haley Dowthitt, Ashley Flores, Lauren Galusha, Norma Gonzalez, Ali Hardaway, Michaela Harris, Payton Hightower, Kaitlyn Johnson, Siera Johnson, Kristen Liles, Caroline Lux, Ali McNulty, Kirsti Molloy, Julie Moore, Amber Morphis, Sarah Nicholson, Cynthia Otero, Brittany Root, Irene Rosa, Sandra Sanchez, Leah Scott, Brianna Sonnamaker, Juliah Vasquez, Callie Waggoner, Lora Waggoner, Lindsey Williams and Brittany Zucca.
Holloway sixth grade competed at the district UIL meet this past Saturday at Pine Tree Junior High.

Sixth grade placed second overall for their grade and third overall with the junior high.

Ready Writing: Riley Williams, first; Hunter Regian, sixth.

Science: Jack Terrell, first; William Rischard, fourth; second place team.

Prose: Regian, third.

Social studies: Brandon Carroll, fourth; Steven Chabarria, fifth; second place team.

Art: Bayley Deaton, sixth.

Maps, charts and graphs: Terrell, second; Caylee Carpenter, third; first place team.

Mathematics: Terrell, first; Matt Coker, fifth; second place team.

Dictionary skills: Williams, first; Bonnie Cotton, third; Darla Featherston, fourth; first place team.

Music memory: third place team (Taylor Andrews, Chaynee Attwood, Bridgett Fail).

Listening: Chabarria, fifth; Aubrey McMillan, fifth; third place team.

Number sense: Terrell, first; Coker, fourth; Jeffrey Yeager, sixth; first place team.
