WJHS wins third with 'Antic Spring'
The cast and alternates also presented the play for the pleasure of their family and friends on two nights at the Whitehouse High School Auditorium. This play was set in an open car filled with six young people going on a picnic. The trials and tribulations faced on the trip resulted in great dialogue and many moments that brought much laughter to the audience. Viergever was named "Best Actor" by the judges in the UIL Competition. He played the role of "Elbert," the little brother who suffers through the journey and picnic with noisy criticism only for the food that is likely to be served. His performance included a hysterical "fit" the Elbert has in an attempt to convince a bothersome admirer to leave him alone. Allen and Bloom were both awarded "Honorable Mention" by the judges for their outstanding performances. Allen played "Blossom," an exuberant and idiotic teenager continuously trying to get Elbert to notice her. Bloom played "Sam," a lovestruck teenager that is scorned by his sweetheart. Rounding out the cast were Rachel Garlitz as "Ginger," an earnest and overbearingly sunny girl; Connor Stubbs as "Robert," a sensitive poetic character; and Morgan Bridges as "Gwendolyn," the dramatic girlfriend to Sam. The play was written by Rober t Nail and directed by Katherine Jones. Stage managers were Arjun Rawal and Emily Stephenson. Lights and sound were managed by Cody Conder and Lucas Gilbert. Allisyn Warrick was responsible for makeup and hair design, and Cindy Scott was the "techie-intraining. Alternate cast members Hannah Herrington, Ryan Keller, Hunter George and Madison Melrose also did an excellent job of performing for the public. |
