JV linksters claim district title

Whitehouse junior varsity boys golf team
The Whitehouse Wildcat junior varsity golf team followed up a good first round with a solid second round to dominate the District 12-AAAA J.V. tournament.

The first round saw the Wildcats jump out to a nine-stroke lead over Hallsville. The first day was played at Wood Hollow Golf Club in Longview. Shane Fulton and Erik Gentry led the Cats at Wood Hollow with fine rounds of 84. Chase Hood and Jordan Wells fired rounds of 86, while Andy Parker finished with an 89. This gave the linksters of Whitehouse the nine-stroke lead with a total of 340. Hallsville was in second with 349.

The final day of competition was held at Crooked Hollow Golf Club near Waskom on Tuesday where Jordan Wells shot his best round ever. His score of 83 paced the Wildcats, with Chase Hood shooting 85, Andy Parker an 87, Shane Fulton 93 and Erik Gentry a 97. The team total of 348 added 11 more strokes to the final victory total.

The Cats finished with a twoday total of 688 - 20 shots better than Hallsville's team score of 708. Third place went to Pine Tree with 725. and Marshall finished fourth with 736.

Other Whitehouse scores were Cody White 95-96-191, Garrett Gardner 99-107-206 and Luke Baer with 99-91-190.

Golf try-outs for next year will be Saturday, April 26 at Peach Tree Golf Course at 8 a.m. Interested students who will be in grades nine through 12 during the 2008-09 school year need to contact Coach Robin Ballard for more information at ballardr@whitehouseisd.org or phone their campus office to obtain a phone number for any questions.
