The Ladycats 7-0 loss to Friendswood capped a recordsetting season and the high school career of seniors Brittany Millican, Kayla Mason, Cassandra Conova, Kelli Hill, Lindsay Pritchard, Jasmine Azghani and Heather Lofties.
For most of those four years, the Ladycats ran through their district opponents undefeated and worked to extend their postseason play each year.
Despite the loss in the regional finals, the 2008 Ladycats have set a new mark for future squads to shoot for. The girls are proud of the accomplishments of the team in the last four years and all the firsts they helped the Ladycats achieve. They wish their teammates much luck, fun and another trip to the playoffs in the future.
Whitehouse went into the match hoping to avenge last year's regional semifinal loss to Friendswood, but realized quickly achieving that goal would not be easy.
Playing in Bryan, the Ladycats came out in a new formation, but Friendswood scored twice early. Adjustments were made to the formation, and they continued to fight hard, but the club-heavy Friendswood team continued to score.
The outcome was all but decided by halftime with Friendswood leading 4-0; junior midfielder Sara Brezina scored on a throw in and Whitehouse was charged with an own goal.
"I don't really know what to say," said Ladycat coach Brad Jones. "Once that first goal happened, it all fell apart. They are a good team without doubt ... (We) got flustered."
Whitehouse finished the year 21-3, while Friendswood moved to 24-1-5 and advanced to its third straight state tournament appearance.
Friendswood's dominant showing came against a Whitehouse team that shut out its first four postseason foes.
