Ladycats win 1st district title
      The Whitehouse girls track team earned its first-ever district title Wednesday, narrowly defeating host team Hallsville to win the district meet. With Whitehouse leading 112 to 94 heading into the mile relay, the district title was still up for grabs.

Tigers drop district game
      Troup's district record slipped to 7-4 after a 3-1 loss to Elysian Fields last Tuesday. The Yellowjackets claimed an early 1-0 lead before the Tiges tied the game 1-all in the fifth inning. Elysian Fields added two more runs in the sixth to seal the win.

      After 21 years at the helm of the Wildcat basketball program, head coach Wally Dawkins is considering a job offer from Houston Clear Lake. Dawkins will meet with Houston Clear Lake officials this Friday to discuss a position as girls athletic coordinator and head basketball coach.

FFA dinner set April 21
      The 2008 Troup FFA and Troup Young Farmers Buyer Appreciation dinner will be held on April 21 at 6:30. The dinner will be held in the Troup High School cafeteria. Immediately following the buyers dinner, attendees will move to the auditorium for the annual FFA Awards Banquet.

      The Whitehouse Ladycat Basketball Camp will be June 2- 6 at Whitehouse High School from 8:30 a.m. to noon daily. Girls entering grades one through nine will be eligible to attend and will be group according to age and ability.

JV sluggers down PT, 6-5 in 9 innings
      The Whitehouse JV came from behind to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh, to send last Friday's home game against Pine Tree to extra innings. The Cats then pulled out the win in the ninth inning as Logan Newton scored on a passed ball to produce the 6-5 victory.

Lady Tigers fall to Tatum, Elysian Fields
      The Troup Lady Tigers suffered two tough losses last week to drop to 6-7 in district action. Prior to the 1-0 defeats at the hands of Tatum and Elysian Fields, the Lady Tigers routed West Rusk, 13-0, on the opponent's home field.

      The Whitehouse varsity track team tied for seventh with Jacksonville at the boys district meet, held April 8-9 in Hallsville. Nacogdoches captured first with 128 points, followed by Marshall (122), Hallsville (100), Henderson (82), Pine Tree (72) and Kilgore (58).

Whitehouse residents earn wins at St. Gregory
      Former Whitehouse cross country standout, and current college champion, R.J. Cowan won the 23rd annual St. Gregory Fun run Saturday, April 5. Cowan completed the 5K race with a time of 17:12, a 5:33 pace per mile. Cowen previously won this race in 2006.
