Powell, Laney exchange vows

Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Laney
Joshua Paul Laney and Kara Lynne Powell were married March 8, 2008 at Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Officiating was Bro. Andy Cox of Jacksonville. Music was provided by soloists Sara Waller and Bobby Jo Spears.

The bride is the daughter of Rodney and Vickie Lough of Jacksonville, and the late Barry Joe Powell. She is the granddaughter of Billy and Ruth Powell and Bud and Fran Ridgley, all of Jacksonville. Kara is a graduate of Jacksonville High School and received her bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is employed with Commercial Bank of Texas in Nacogdoches.

The bridegroom is the son of Paul and Lori Laney of Jacksonville. He is the grandson of Linda Wiggins of Jacksonville, the late Dickey Wiggins, and Merle and Flossie Laney of Troup. Josh is a graduate of Jacksonville High School and received his associate degree from Lon Morris College. He is employed with Lowes in Nacogdoches.

The ceremony included the lighting of a candle in memory of Barr y Joe Powell, the couple's first communion and a picture slideshow of the bride and groom including their family and friends.

The bride's dress was designed by Oleg Cassini, with a beaded and crusted bodice, a full tulle skirt and a two-tier, elbowlength veil with Swarovski crystal outlining trim.

Maid of honor was Merry Caroline Canter of McKinney, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Cortney Powell of Jacksonville, cousin of the bride; Brandi Daugherty of Louisiana, friend of the bride; Erica Powell of Jacksonville, cousin of the bride; Jaci Laney of Oakwood, sister of the groom; and Shelbi Laney of Jacksonville, sister of the groom. Honorary bridesmaids were Cassie Bingham of Jacksonville, Sarah Newburn of Tyler, Cassie Devillier of Jacksonville and Randi Westbrook of Flint, all friends of the bride.

Best man was Chris Bingham of Jacksonville, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Matt Turner of College Station, Dusty Shank of Jacksonville, Dustin Daugherty of Louisiana, Bobby Jo Spears of Nacogdoches and Chad Devillier of Jacksonville, all friends of the groom.

Flower girls were Presley and Addison Heitzmann of Magnolia, god-daughters of the bride; Emma Pashcall of Dallas, cousin of the bride; and Kayla Powell of Jacksonville, cousin of the bride. Ring bearers were Coen Devillier of Jacksonville and Keaton Westbrook of Flint, both friends of the bride and groom.

Serving as ushers were Jacob Littrell of Nacogdoches, friend of the groom; Brandon Powell of Jacksonville, cousin of the bride; Clay Canter of Jacksonville, friend of the groom; and Brady Heitzmann of Magnolia, god-son of the bride. A passage reading was provided by Jaclyn Partin of Nacogdoches, friend of the bride.

The reception was held at the home of Blake Powell, brother of the bride. Following a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, the couple will reside in Nacogdoches.
