Dawkins considers job offer

After 21 years at the helm of the Wildcat basketball program, head coach Wally Dawkins is considering a job offer from Houston Clear Lake. Dawkins will meet with Houston Clear Lake officials this Friday to discuss a position as girls athletic coordinator and head basketball coach.

Clear Lake went 7-15 last season and 5-6 in District 24- 5A. They lose three seniors.

"One of the things that attracts me to the job is the ability to build the program from the ground up, as well as coordinate the girls program," said Dawkins, who has earned a 442-133 record at Whitehouse and led his teams to the postseason 16 out of the past 19 years.

The job offer from Clear Lake comes from principal Chris Moran, a former Whitehouse principal and assistant coach.

Dawkins, who has 559 wins in 27 years of coaching, said he is undecided on whether he will take the position.

"I'm interested in learning more details about the job," Dawkins told the Tyler Morning Telegraph. "My wife and I are both kind of in the middle of the road. One day we feel good about it and one day we think we should stay."

"We're grateful to have the opportunity to be in Whitehouse and grateful for the opportunity possible in Clear Lake," said Dawkins. "Right now I'm not sure what we're going to do."
