Ladycats face Lindale in bi-district game today
Whitehouse went into last Tuesday's road game with Hallsville with a district mark of 10-2. The Ladycats held the undefeated Lady Bobcats to two runs off eight hits. Cagen Medlock worked the mound, striking out seven with one earned run. The Ladycats lone run came in the sixth inning. Erica Fuller singled and advanced to second on a Chelsey Boulware sacrifice bunt. Fuller then scored on a Taylor Russell single to left. Jordan Knight was 2-for-3 with a double and a single. Fuller, Boulware, Russell, Megan Brady and Jesse Allen were all 1-for 3 on the night. Hosting Henderson last Friday on senior night, Whitehouse found itself trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. The Ladycats tied the game in dramatic fashion, as Fuller hit the first homerun of her high school career to tie the game at 3-all and send it into extra innings. Medlock walked in the bottom of the ninth and was replaced by courtesty runner Rachel Kidwell. Allen put down a sacrifice bunt to advance her to second. Haylee Aldredge then moved the runner to third on a fielder's choice. Kidwell then scored the game-winning run off a Boulware single to second base. Emily Costlow pitched eight innings, allowing four hits and five walks. She struck out 11 and gave up two earned runs. Medlock pitched the ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. With both Whitehouse and Marshall having 11-3 district records, the Ladycats and Lady Mavs met in a playoff game on Saturday, April 19 at Pine Tree. Marshall scored first, putting two on the board in the top of the second inning. Taking advantage of their next at bat, the Ladycats quickly loaded the bases off walks by Brady and Cecily Petree and a single by Knight. Aldredge knocked a single to right center to score Brady and Knight and tie the score at 2-all. In the bottom of the third, Brady singled and scored on a Knight single to right field. Marshall added three runs in the top of the fourth inning to go ahead 5-3. Russell and Brady walked in the bottom of the fifth, and then scored on a Petree single to right center to tie the game again, 5-5. Marshall added another run in the top of the sixth to leave Whitehouse trailing by one heading into their last at bat in the bottom of the seventh. The Ladycats again found a way to pull out the last-minute win. Boulware and Russel singled, and then Knight hit a shot to right field to score Boulware and tie the game at 6- all. Russell advanced to third, and Petree walked to load the bases. Costlow hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Russell to score for game-winning run. Medlock pitched all seven innings, allowing 10 hits and four walks. She struck out eight and had four earned runs. |
