Varsity Cats fall, JV claims district crown
Whitehouse blanks Bobcats for 6-0 conference finish

Wildcat Blake Shockley makes it to third safely as Coach Robey monitors the play.
The Whitehouse JV baseball team finished a successful district campaign last week as they defeated Hallsville 3-0 to finish up district undefeated for the year. Justin Haney worked the mound for the Cats, going the distance in getting the win. Haney allowed only four hits while striking out four and only giving up one walk.

Haney was the recipient of a solid defensive effort by the Cats as he tossed in 11 ground ball outs for the night. The Wildcats struggled offensively but produced three runs in the third inning that wound up being the difference. Austin Kea, Haney and Skip Caldwell all singled in the third and each scored in the inning with the big hit coming on a single by Payton Smith.

The win boosted the Cats district record to a spotless 6-0 with just a rainout to Kilgore being the only game that the Cats never made up. Varsity drops close road game, set to close out year at Nac

The Wildcat varsity baseball team dropped another close game with Hallsville, this one coming on the road as they fell last week to the Bobcats 9- 7. Whitehouse jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Heath Mayo and Ryan Bell led the game off with singles and set up the Cats with runners at second and third.

Seth Cashion then grounded out to second to score Mayo and Matt Durst hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Bell. However, the Bobcats came back to score four runs in the bottom half of the first as the Cats failed to turn over a double play ball that would got them out of the inning without a run scored.

Whitehouse regained the lead in the third as Cashion and Durst singled with one out. Grant Brandon then beat out an infield hit and Kevan House came through with a two RBI single to right. Brandon then scored on a groundout by Taylor Peterson to give the Cats the 5-4 lead.

Hallsville then tied things up in the third and took the lead 7-5 on a two run homer in the fourth. Hallsville added to the lead headed into the top of the seventh but the Cats tried one final time to keep things going. After Bell reached on an error, Cashion doubled to deep right to score Bell. He then scored on a single by Brandon and then Peterson singled with two outs to put runners on the corners before Brady Attaway grounded out to third to end the game as Hallsville prevailed 9- 7.

The Cats will travel to Nacogdoches tomorrow night for their final district game against the Dragons.
