Troup Trustee race
I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a degree in horticulture. I am currently employed by BWI in New Summerfield, where I work as the sales manager. Prior to this, I worked for 14 years at Powell Plant Farms in several different capacities. I am very active in local and state professional organizations which support the horticulture industry. My family and I have lived in Troup since 1994. During this time, I have been active in the community. I have served as an officer on the Troup Youth Association Board and have coached little league for 11 years. We attend church at the First United Methodist Church where I serve on the Administrative Council. I have been involved in the Young Farmers Association for seven years and have been an officer for four years. The Troup School District has many great things to offer our children. First and foremost, the schools are academically sound. Each campus was recognized for their TAKS scores last year. This is proof the district has employed professionals that work hard for our kids. Next, we have many extracurricular programs that include fine arts, athletics and agriculture. Many of our children have the opportunity to be involved in activities that enhance their educational experience. My reason for pursuing a position on the Troup Independent School District Board of Trustees is so that I can work to ensure the continuance of academic excellence for the children of Troup. (Kevin Martin grew up in Nocona and graduated from high school there in 1985. He worked at the Dallas Garden Center for three years before moving to Troup.) Editor's note: Both Martin and Place 3 opponent Keith Lindsey were invited to submit biographical information and political statements. At press time, Mr. Lindsey had not responded to the newspaper's request. Lindsey is currently serving on the school board in Place 1 but seeks re-election for Place 3. Incumbent Melissa Young, Place 2, and Andy Griffin, Place 1, are running unopposed. Kent Lindsey currently serves in Place 3 but he is not seeking reelection. |
