WHS bands to perform Monday The award-winning Whitehouse High School bands will present their annual Spring Concert on Monday evening, May 12 in the Whitehouse High School Arena at 7. The Whitehouse Band Booster Club is also hosting an "Out back Hamburger Supper" that night from 5-7 p.m. as a fundraiser to help the band with their expenses for their band trip next year. The hamburger supper is being catered by Outback Steakhouse of Tyler. Tickets for the supper are $7.50 each and are currently on sale from band students and Band Booster parents. Entertainment for the hamburger supper will be provided by the students that are competing in the State Solo & Ensemble Contest later this month in Austin. The WHS Concert Band 2, directed by Joe Hewitt, will perform Omaha Beach March by John Edmundson and Malaguena arranged by Michael Sweeney. The WHS Concert Band, directed by James Clifton, will perform Prestissimo March by K.L. King and Highlights from Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The WHS Symphonic Band, directed by Denny Whitley, will perform Honey Boys on Parade March by Edward Cupero, The Wizard of Oz arranged for band by James Barnes, and Soaring with John Williams, arranged by Robert W. Smith. The Spring Band Concert is also the time that the seniors are presented; various awards and scholarships will also be given. After the presentation of awards, the concert will conclude with all three bands combining and performing Cantina Band/Sing, Sing, Sing and America the Beautiful. There is no admissionand the public is cordially invited. |
