Whitehouse FFA ends year at Kiepersol

Members of the Whitehouse High School FFA show team show off their projects.
The Whitehouse high school FFA show team competed in their final competition of the year recently at the East Texas Junior Invitational Show on the Kiepersol grounds in Bullard.

Five members of the team showed a total of eight projects that they constructed. The projects consisted of a restored 1949 Farmall M, a 32' yellow gooseneck trailer, a shop table, a portable skinning rack, a picnic table and a wooden collapsible camp chair.

The camp chair was constructed out of yellow pine by Brandon Marble and earned an 85 from the judges on a 100 point scale. Allen Stone entered a skinning rack in the show. The rack is designed to attach to the receiving hitch of a truck to assist hunters in cleaning their trophy.

Jessica Huff competed with two tables: one a picnic table made of white oak and the other a metal table designed to be a working surface for various shop activities, including cutting and welding.

Ben Edwards showed the trailer built by advisor Jay Northcutt's two-hour welding class. The trailer has a 32' tongue and groove white oak deck and a five-foot dove tail. Dakota Nelson competed with a 1949 Farmall M that she restored to original condition.

The team did exceptionally well in the overall competition, according to advisor Casi Bynum. The trailer, shop table and tractor all were awarded blue ribbons. The other projects all placed with red ribbons. Collectively, the team won Reserve Grand Champion sweepstakes. Sweepstakes indicates which chapter wins the most overall points from all combined team projects.

The trailer won Reserve Grand Champion open shop project. Dakota Nelson's tractor won Grand Champion in her division and also overall Grand Champion of all entered projects.

The Whitehouse High School FFA Show team has had a very successful year, traveling across the state of Texas, to some of the largest competitions in the state, including shows in San Antonio, Houston, and San Angelo.

The complete team roster from the show season includes Kyle Casey, Ben Edwards, Chris Voudrie, Ramey Tucker, Dakota Nelson, Danielle Nelson, Allen Stone, Jessica Huff, and Brandon Marble, Lance Collins, Tracey Martin, Sarah Kuykendall, Brandon Hopson, Cameron Rogers, William Seal, Cody Clark, Morgan Posey, Patrick Barnett, Danny Freeman and Kathryn Bond.
