Mamaw's move adds space, more employees The little trailer that once housed the entire pie-making paraphernalia of Mamaw's Fried Pies still stands watch as hundreds now daily visit the new location of Nell Hoce and Sandra Harvell's prize-winning fried pies. From the tiny store-front to the custom-built pie place, these twin sisters have increased their production and the quality remains the same. Mamaw's is not only making more fried pies for daily consumption, they now ship across the country. This part of the business has really boomed since their debut on Bob Phillip's Texas Country Reporter. The requests may come in year-round, but Nell says they can only do this during the cooler months of the year. This once two-person operation now employs 12 people. Seven of them are family and five are not related. Their success has made a positive impact on the Whitehouse economy. The new rock-finished building at 1010 Hwy. 110, sitting with its back porch looking out on Hill Creek, will easily seat a bus load of hungry visitors. And they have had just that since being listed as a great stop on some mystery bus tours. They are also a destination place for some of the Red Hat Society groups. The beautiful fireplace will warm feet and hearts once winter sets in and the beautiful Christmas decorations return to set the mood for holiday parties and gatherings. Mamaw's Fried Pies is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and closed on Sunday. |
