Funeral services for Sue Merlene Berry Sewell, 72, of Troup were held June 27 in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Rusk. Interment was in Sardis- Edgefield Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mrs. Sewell died June 25, 2009 in a Whitehouse nursing home. She was born Oct. 4, 1936 in Sardis to the late Menyon and Billie Sue Harris Berry. Mrs. Sewell was a resident of Troup for 18 years, formerly of Carrollton. She was also a member of the Blackjack Baptist Church in Troup.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Berry Sewell.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Monroe Sewell of Troup; son, Wes Sewell of Dallas; four daughters and two sons-inlaw, Gail Long and Rusty of Lewisville, Melynda Gattis of Addison, Jamie Clement and Greg of Fort Worth and Lisa Sewell of Carrollton; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
