'Future Lady Tigers' show promise at camp

Session II participants in the Future Lady Tigers hoops camp Session II participants in the Future Lady Tigers hoops camp Coach Tony Harris hosted two basketball camps for "Future Lady Tigers" at Troup ISD recently.

Session I, June 1-5, was for sixth through ninth graders, and Session II, June 15-19, for first through fifth graders.

"The basic goal of our camps has always been to focus on the fundamentals of the game in a competitive and fun environment. In this year's camps we were able to move to another level which will broaden our level of instruction for future years," Harris said.

Harris conducted the Session I camp in three onehour frames, with focus on individual fundamental development, position play and 5- on-5 in the half and full court.

Registered campers for Session I were Savannah Bell, Jaclyn Bender, Kara Benge, Madi Burke, Cheney Cover, Carly Dyess, Miranda Flora Rebekah Hall, Lexee Jones, Hunter Jordan, Cheyenne Kirkland, Katherine Lacy, LeeAnn Loyd, Taylor Lucas, Madison Martin, Victoria Newman, Josie Rasberry, Amber Rice, Josee Ross, Bethany Steen, Kayla Thomas, Caitlin Thomlin and Britney Wallace.

"In session one we saw a tremendous amount of growth in our young players, ranging from individual improvement in ball-handling to offensive team concepts," said Harris.

Session II was also broken into three segments, with the first hour devoted to ball-handling fundamentals; the second individual competitions; and the final phase team play.

Registered campers were Rose Barton, Kelsie Benge, Natalie Davenport, Alex Flora, Alyssa Flora, Carlie Howard, Finley Jennings, Nash Jennings, Samantha Knighton, Katrina Noyola, Avery Thibodeaux, Catherine Thompson, and Kelsea Vanderslice.

"In session two we experienced growth in individual skills and knowledge of the game," Harris said. "This was the first time several of our campers were challenged to dribble with their dominant hand, non-dominant hand and two balls at the same time while looking up. We had a fun time as we incorporated music, plus individual and team competitions into the camp setting.
