Football, cheer finals Nov. 27-28

The 2009 Southwest Region Pop Warner Football Championships as well as the Southwest Region Cheer/Dance competitions will take place Nov. 27-28 in Tyler.

The dance and cheer competitions will take place on Friday at the Oil Palace and football championships will be played at Grace Community School and Bullard High School on Nov. 28.

These competitions will bring in over 100 teams from five states to compete for a trip to the nationals in Orlando, Fla.

First and second place finishers in each division in dance and cheer and the first place winners in each division in football will advance to the “Super Bowl” competition in Orlando in December.

Competitors range in age from 5 to 15 years old.

This is the first time Tyler is hosting this event. Past host cities have been San Antonio and College Station.

Pop Warner prides itself on the fact that all participants must be scholastically eligible to compete. Report cards are collected and monitored to make sure these young boys and girls are maintaining their grades.
