Community Activities

Chocolate contest set

Make plans to enter and attend the 5th annual Best Chocolate Dessert in Smith County contest set for Saturday, Feb. 6, 1 p.m. at the City of Tyler Senior Citizens Center, 1915 Garden Valley Rd. Forms can be picked up at the Smith County AgriLife Extension Service office on or before contest day or downloaded at smithtx. tamu.edu. Contest entry fee is only $1 per entry. Troup gears up for Souper Supper

Come to the Troup library on Sunday, Feb. 7, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for some great pre-Super Bowl action. The best cooks in town will be serving up hearty soups along with crackers, desserts and drinks. Adults can “soup up” for only $5 each. Children under 10 will pay only $3. Tickets are available at the door or from W.D. Wilkinson. Funds raised benefit the Friends of the Library.

AARP driver safety program offered

AARP is offering their driver safety program for drivers age 50 and older the first and second Monday of each month. The next course is set for Monday, Feb. 8, 1-5 p.m., at Pollard Methodist Church. The cost for AARP members is $12 with non-members paying $14. To register for a class or to express your interest for an evening or Saturday class, call Jim Linney at 903-839- 7789.

Henry Marsh Bell Lodge meeting

Henry Marsh Bell Masonic Lodge #1371 will meet Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the lodge hall. All Masonic Brothers are welcome to attend.

Troup American Legion Aux. to meet

Troup American Legion Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at the legion hall.

Library hours and activities

Regular library hours for the Whitehouse Community Library are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11-5.

Regular hours for the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 1-5 p.m., Thursday 3-7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Church Activities

FBC WH missions garage sale Saturday

Items by the hundreds will be for sale in the gym of the First Baptist Church of Whitehouse on Saturday, Feb. 6, beginning at 7 a.m. The fund-raiser will benenfit the Acts 1:8 missions projects of the church. Come make some great deals at 801 E. Main.

Bluegrass gospel music at Mixon

Mixon Missionary Baptist Church is hosting Bluegrass Gospel Music and supper on Saturday, Feb. 6. Doors open at 2:30 with food served at at 4 p.m. followed by the music at 5 p.m. The church is located on Hwy 135N between Troup and Jacksonville. All donations are welcome and go to the church. Prince of Peace holds bake sale

The Altar Society of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Whitehouse will hold their Valentine Bake Sale on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fred’s parking lot. Come pick out a sweet for your sweetie.

Troup trustees meets Monday

Troup ISD trustees meet 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8 at the Troup ISD Administration Office, 201 N. Carolina.

Whitehouse P & Z to meet

The City of Whitehouse Planning and Zoning commission is set to meet Tuesday, Feb 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Whitehouse court chambers, 311 E. Main.

Troup City Council meets Tuesday

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Troup City Council is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9. The meeting will be held at the Troup ISD Administration Office at 201 N. Carolina.

Time change notice

The next regular monthly meeting of the Whitehouse City Council will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
