UIL realignment a mix of old and new

What’s old is new at Whitehouse, while new is really new at Troup.

The recently released UIL district realignment for football and basketball promises a bit of change for both districts in the 2010-11.

Key for Whitehouse is the addition of John Tyler replacing Henderson. Otherwise, the teams of Hallsville, Jacksonville, Kilgore, Pine Tree, Marshall and Nacogdoches reflect the same line-up from two years ago. WISD Athletic Director Randy McFarlin is excited about the realignment, especially one difference.

“The best deal for us is upon qualifying for the playoffs, we should go into Division II,” he said.

In Troup the basketball realignment for 21-2A shakes things up with the addition of Sabine and Winona joining familiar faces Arp, Elkhart, Frankston and West Rusk. Woden, Central Heights and Garrison are gone.

The football realignment places Troup in District 11- 2A where Elkhart is the only returning opponent.

“It is an exciting time to find out where we stand and who we will play,” said Chuck Griffin who will be Troup’s AD and head coach next season. “We will be playing in a new district as we move in a new direction in our athletic program.”

In addition to Troup and Elkhart, District 11-2A will be comprised of Crockett, Malakoff, Teague and Trinity. “I was a little surprised to be in the big school 2A,” said Griffin. “We made it by half a student.”

The UIL biennial reclassification enrollment data includes: 5A, 2065 and up; 4A, 990 to 2064; 3A, 430-989; 2A, 200 to 429; 1A, 199 and below.
