Four Winds festival offers family fare
Troup ISD campuses have been enjoying a Teacher’s Discovery Traveling exhibit featuring the fascinating paintings of Frederic Remington, painter of the iconic images of the Wild West. The students and staff have also enjoyed exhibits of Salvador Dali in December and Vincent van Gogh in January. The exhibits have been displayed on each campus for one week. They are looking forward to an exhibit of Diego Rivera in May. The exhibits are sponsored by TISD campus principals and the technology department in appreciation for the student’s hard work regarding the yearly art auction which is scheduled for May 6.
Enjoy merry days and gallant knights at Four Winds Faire’s 16th annual season of full combat jousting, Renaissance entertainment, merry minstrels, swashbuckling swordsmen, pirates and buccaneers, ar tisan demonstrations, craft booths, and food and drink fit for a king and queen.
Four Winds Faire is offering eight consecutive weekends through April 25 of family entertainment. A full day of merriment at Four Winds Faire is a great value at only $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12 (children four and under are free). Season passes are also available for adults and children.
At Four Winds’ “Tournament of Chivalry,” knights compete to display their jousting and gaming skills at the Royal Jousting arena twice a day. Four Winds’ internationally acclaimed jousting company, the Knights of the Four Winds, offers full contact jousting competition in a setting reminiscent of the royal jousting fields of Western Europe.
The Renaissance faire offers an amazing variety of 17th century living history demonstrations with dozens of live performances daily. An authentic living history encampment offers a vivid glimpse into what military life was like during the period of the Thirty Years War (1618 – 1648) with live steel sword duels and period weapons demonstrations. Children will thrill to being knighted by the valiant Sir Dustin de Grey, the Green Knight, Captain of the award-winning Joust Team, Knights of the Four Winds.
Four Winds Faire is acclaimed to be one of the most historically authentic faire experiences in Texas. Four Winds Faire is located just 11 miles south of Tyler, Texas on Hwy. 110 South, between Whitehouse and Troup Gates are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate on event days.
