Man sentenced to 99 years

A Gladewater man has been sentenced to 99 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a child. Dennis Wayne Rogers, 33, was convicted of the Class 1 Felony last week in the Smith County 241st District Court; since the offense was shown to have been continuous sexual assault of a child, Rogers will serve without possibility of parole, said Whitehouse Detective Kevin Huckabee.

“The verdict and the 99 year sentence from the jury was a result of the dedicated services of the Whitehouse Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Department, Smith County Child Advocacy Center and the Smith County District Attorney’s Office,” said Huckabee. “Joe Murphy did an outstanding job presenting the case before the jury to assure that Rogers would not get away with this horrific crime.”

The original report was filed with Huckabee in late July 2009 after an 11-year-old made an outcry of sexual abuse to a family member and implicated Rogers. The Whitehouse PD, assisted by a Smith County Sheriff’s investigator, investigated the case and Rogers was arrested in August 2009.
