Community Activities

Parkinsonians of East Texas meeting

Parkinsonians of East Texas will meet Thursday, June 23 at 2 p.m. in the Pavilion, 801 Clinic Dr., Tyler. Speech Language Pathologist, Kelley Babcock, will discuss problems related to the P.D. patient.

TWCO meets Monday

Troup Women’s Civic Organization will meet on Monday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of Troup’s Cameron-J. Jarvis Library. This will be the group’s first meeting of the 2011-2012 year. A business meeting will be held to discuss new committee appointments as well as projects and activities for the upcoming year.

Library hours and activities

Regular library hours for the Whitehouse Community Library are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Summer Reading program runs June 22 through July 27 every Wednesday. Ages three to six years meet at 9 a.m. Ages seven to 10 meet at 10 a.m. and 11-14 year olds meet at 11 a.m. Whitehouse will start their season with a kick-off party Saturday, June 18 at 4 p.m. It will be a puppet show by the Backyard Bunch and snow cones will be served.

Regular hours for the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 1-5 p.m., Thursday 3-7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Troup’s Summer Reading program started June 15 and runs through July 20. All kids fifth grade and under are welcome from 2-4 p.m. each Wednesday.

WH Recycle Center open

Recycle Center will follow a holiday schedule on the first weekend of July, therefore they will not open on July 2. Regular hours of operation for the Whitehouse Recycle Center are on Wednesdays from 7-10 a.m. and 3:30-5 p.m. as well as the first and third Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Bring your recyclable paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. The Recycle Center is located on Railroad Avenue.

TASCA offers many activities

Whether your interest is dance, exercise, card or domino games or even scrapbooking, the Tyler Area Senior Citizens Association is the place for you. Drop in at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd) in Whitehouse or call Billie at 903-871-3217 for more details.

VFW Post 1799 open daily

VFW Post 1799 on Rhone Quarter Road opens daily at 2:30 p.m. for members and guests. Each day offers a different activity such as competitive pool, karaoke and social hour. For information, visit them on Facebook at VFW Post 1799 or call 903-561-3501.

Church Activities

Bascom UMC hosts breakfast

The Bascom United Methodist Church on FM 848 hosts breakfast the last Saturday of the month from 8:30 -10 a.m. A full breakfast meal is served and donations are accepted.

Government Activities

Troup trustees meet tonight

Troup ISD trustees will hold a special-called meeting Thursday, June 23 at 6 p.m. at the Troup ISD Administration Office at 201 N. Carolina.

WISD trustees to meet

The Whitehouse ISD trustees will meet on Tuesday, June 27 at 6 p.m. in the Wildcat Drive Annex, 109 Wildcat Drive.

Whitehouse City Council to meet

Whitehouse City Council will meet Tuesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. in the Whitehouse City Council and Court chambers at 311 E. Main.

Troup City Council to meet

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Troup City Council is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28. The meeting will be held at the Troup ISD Administration Office at 201 N. Carolina.

City offices start new schedule

Effective June 1, Municipal Offices (Utilities & Court) for the City of Whitehouse will close for lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

YesterYear Activities

Parade & park fun, Saturday, June 25

The 29th annual YesterYear parade kicks off at 10 a.m. from the drive of Whitehouse High School and travels west to Bascom Road where it makes a turn to the north and ends at Shelly. Bring a lawn chair and jug of water and enjoy as floats, tractors and Shriners fill the streets of Whitehouse with fun for the whole family. Make your way over the City Park and enjoy arts and crafts vendors, family entertainment and food by Engine 7 Grill.
