The competition involved three area churches, including Martin’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene,

Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Henry’s Chapel. About 300 attended the event in spite of rainy weather. Fourteen teams entered the event and a spirit of friendly competition proved to make the evening very lively.

The winner of the chili cook-off was “Church Chili“ and was prepared by husband and wife team Gary and Carlotta Martin of Concord. The People’s Choice Award went to the “Graceland Chili” team with head cook Michael Kee and wife Janette of Henry‘s Chapel. The top team bringing in extra donations was the “Sure Shot Chili” team headed up by Bill Clem, of Henry’s Chapel.

The proceeds from the event will be divided evenly between the Carlisle and Troup Volunteer Fire Departments. The communities wanted to show their appreciation to the members of the fire departments, especially since the wild fires of September 2011 took such a big toll on funds.

Fire Chief Ben Marsh of Carlisle and Tim Mager of Troup accepted checks from pastors David Goodwin, of the Henry’s Chapel United Methodist Church, and Johnny Davis, of the Martin’s Chapel Nazarene Church.
