Troup Lady Tigers blitz Winona 22-1
The Lady Tigers answered with seven runs in the bottom the opening frame and the game was all but over. Another four runs in the second inning wrapped up the win for Troup, and an 11-run fourth inning was mere icing on the cake.
The fourth inning offensive onslaught was highlighted by a grand slam home run by Taylor Martin. She finished with four RBIs and two hits in just two at-bats.
“The girls did a great job swinging the bats today and taking advantage of extra base opportunities,” said head coach Samantha Darr. “Both Lee Ann Lloyd and Josee Ross pitched great today for us.”
The Lady Tigers needed only a dozen hits to record the 22 runs. The game was called in the fifth inning.
Lloyd was on the mound for two innings and she fanned five batters and yielded one walk and three hits. In three innings of work on the hill, Ross whiffed seven batters and allowed two walks and one hit.
Also for the Lady Tigers, Caitlin Tomlin smashed two hits and had three RBIs; Ross ripped a triple and finished with two hits and she drove in two runs; Bethany Mason drove in a run off two hits; and Ronni Boyer, Lloyd, Katelyn Standley and Miranda Flora each had a hit.
Troup improved to 3-0 in district competition. The Lady Tigers will host Sabine at 6 p.m. Friday, March 23.
