The temps are moving up and so are plans for the new band year in Troup and Whitehouse. Both groups will see new captains at the helm.

Robert Castillo is the new Troup High School director and Ryan McInturff will take on the middle school band. These men have already been working together to get things ready for their students’ return.

First up for Troup High School band is a leadership training program for those interested in joining the leadership team for the Tiger Band. This will be a full day, Monday, July 17, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with lunch provided. Castillo says the focus will be on leader development, team building, goal setting and many other items. Any 10th-12th grade students are welcome to attend. There is limited space for incoming 9th graders, if space is available.

Drumline camp is set for July 24-28, 12:30-4:30 p.m. All high school percussion students are included. This time is set aside for students to learn several technique exercises, new cadences and show music. Castillo says the time will also be used as an evaluation for instrument assignment.

Taking the lead as Director of Bands for Whitehouse ISD is Tom Mensch. He released a letter and schedule to band members recently to help them plan their year.

First on the list is leadership training and music and instrument pick up on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 25-26, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the high school band hall.

Freshman Camp is set for July 27-28 with full band returning for camp July 31-Aug. 4.
