National Society DAR to meet

The Major Thaddeus Beall Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the First United Methodist Church located at 1031 Southeast Loop 456 in Jacksonville. KWB hosting city-wide cleanup

Keep Whitehouse Beautiful is once again hosting a city wide cleanup event for Whitehouse. The “Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off” takes place 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Participants are encouraged to register by sending an email to register@keepwhitehousebeautiful.com.  . Trash bags will be provided though volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves. Whitehouse library hosts spring book sale

The Whitehouse Community Library will host its big spring book sale from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Hardbacks, paperbacks and children’s books will be available as well as DVDs, CDs and even some homemade treats. All items are $1 or less. Payments can be made by cash or for transactions over $5, debit and credit cards will also be accepted. TWCO to host benefit sale

The Troup Women’s Civic Organization will host a big sale in Agnews Showroom, across the street from the First United Methodist Church in downtown Troup from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 14. There will be lots of pretty and contemporary clothing of all sizes, prom dresses and household items. All proceeds benefit the Troup Women’s Civic Organization scholarship program.

East Texas Iris Society to host annual show

“Iris is Wonderland,” the third annual show of the East Texas Iris Society, will be held from 12-5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Tyler Rose Garden Center located at 420 Rose Park Drive. Parking for the event is free.

Recycle-Recycle-Recycle

Republic Services in Whitehouse picks up recycling on Wednesday. Recyclable items include paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. Troup has a self-service recycling receptacle. The Allied Waste Recycling bin is located at the corner of W. Bradford and N. Georgia.

Jam session and sing along

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), in Whitehouse. 

American Legion weekly events

American Legion in Troup at 301 Magnolia has pool tournaments beginning at 7 p.m. each Wednesday night.

The Tyler Area Senor Citizens Association is open to the public, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TASCA’s schedule includes the following events: 

Thursday, April 12: Pinochle, 9 a.m.;.; Hand and foot, 12:00 p.m.; Mah jongg, 12:30 p.m; 42 group (straight), 7-9 p.m. Open Mic Night. 

Friday, April 13: Coffee social group; 9:30 a.m., Fitness exercise with Certified Instructor for Older Adults, 9:30 a.m.; Practice bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Sing along/jamming, 1:30 p.m.

Monday, April 16: Coffee social group, 9:30 a.m.; 42 group, 12 p.m.; Mah Jongg, 1 p.m.

 Tuesday, April 17: “84” group, 8:45 a.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 11 a.m.; Beginner bridge, 10 a.m.; Bridge, 12:00 p.m.; Joker and Hand & Foot, 1:00 p.m.; Mexican train, 5:45 p.m.; Ballroom dance lessons, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
