Fall sports leap into competition for Troup, WH

Okay! There is no smell of autumn in the air, but “fall” sports are ramping up for action.

The Troup and Whitehouse volleyball programs started practice and scrimmages last week and both jumped into the regular season Tuesday, Aug. 7.

The Lady Tigers are also scheduled to participate in the Van Tournament Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11, while the Ladycats of Whitehouse will travel to play in the Duncanville Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 9-11.

Volleyball action will continue Tuesday, Aug. 14, when Troup will play at Quitman at 4:30 p.m., and Whitehouse will face Lindale and Corsicana in a dual match the Ladycats will host starting at 4:30 p.m.

Fans who have season tickets for Troup will be able to purchase tickets through Friday, Aug. 10. The package will cost $25. Season tickets not purchased by current ticket holders will be available to the general public Monday, Aug. 13.

Season tickets for Whitehouse games are available to the general public.

The Meet the Cats annual event will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Wildcat Stadium (the venue was moved due to construction). A meal will be served at 6 p.m. Whitehouse fans will be Introduced to the 2018-2019 band, cheerleaders, cross country, football, volleyball members and their coaches.

For Troup fans, Meet the Tigers will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16. The Tigers will host a football scrimmage Sabine Friday, Aug. 16, at a time to be announced. Troup will scrimmage at Union Grove Thursday, Aug. 23, also at a time to be announced. The regular season will start Friday, Aug. 31, when the Tigers play at Tenaha. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The Whitehouse football teams will scrimmage at Kaufman Friday, Aug. 17, at a time to be announced. The Wildcats will scrimmage Joshua at A.C. Middle School in Mesquite at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24. The regular football season will begin Friday, Aug. 31. The Wildcats will host Henderson with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Cross country also will start for Troup and Whitehouse. For the Whitehouse squads, the first meet is slated Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Union Grove Cross Country Invitational at Union Grove High School. The meet will begin at 8 a.m.

Whitehouse also will run at the Brook Hill American Warrior Run at Brook Hill High School in Bullard Saturday, Sept. 1. The meet will begin at 8 a.m.

The Troup cross country team will open the 2018 season with the Stephen F. Austin Invitational at Pecan Acres City Park in Nacogdoches.
