Ladycats sweep opponents, prepare for loop action

Following a successful pre-district campaign, the Ladycats will begin District 17-5A competition Friday, Sept. 22.

Before Whitehouse hosts Nacogdoches in the first loop match, the Ladycats will host Pleasant Grove starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, and will play at Henderson with the varsity match slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19. The Ladycats also played at All Saints Tuesday, Sept. 12, with results to come.

Before the match with All Saints, Whitehouse boasted a 20-7 mark for the season, including tournament competition.

Last week, Whitehouse defeated Carthage and Spring Hill. In the home match with Carthage, the Ladycats were methodical in a 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of the Lady Bulldogs.

Mahayla Mithchell contributed to the victory with four serving aces and 13 digs, while Sydney Malmstrom added 10 kills and five blocks to the team totals. Kaitlyn Wood added seven kills to help the Ladycats dominate the net, and Lauren Hannah responded with a dozen assists. Also for Whitehouse, Grace Hendricks posted 11 assists and three ace serves, and Macy Smith paced the defense with 16 digs.  

The Ladycats also swept Spring Hill, which included a good start with a 25-15 win in the first game of the match. Whitehouse worked for a 25-18 win in the second set, and concluded the match with a 25-13 win in the third and final game.

Rylie Smith paced the squad 18 digs and added two ace serves, and Malmstrom held court at the net with a dozen kills and four blocks. Additionally, Hendricks covered her teammates with 22 assists, while Smith and Mitchell each recorded 16 digs.  

In junior varsity competition, Whitehouse defeated Carthage 25-22, 25-21, and the Ladycats worked for a 25-21, 25-19 victory over Spring Hill.

Whitehouse also defeated Carthage in the freshman match 25-18, 25-21.
