Ladycats win district soccer championship

The District 17-5A soccer crown will be worn by Ladycats.

Whitehouse needed well placed penalty kicks to defeat Lindale 5-4, and claim the district championship Friday, March 10.

The Ladycats posted a 9-1 record in district play, which also included a 6-1 victory over Ennis earler last week.

Brooke Morris and Alicia Gurrusquieta each booted a goal in regulation to help the Ladycats keep the score knotted at 2-2. Both also assisted each other in the score.

Both teams lined up for penalty kicks to break the tie. Junior goalie Sydney Malmstrom did an outstanding job blocking two of the penalty shots. Meanwhile, Rachel Fulgham, Morris and Chloe Towler were successful in their kicks to secure the win.

Six Whitehouse players contributed goals in the 6-1 victory over Ennis. Maddy Sparks, Gurrusquieta, Lyndsey Raabe, Fulgham, Morris and Ally Reed each booted a goal, and Raabe, Alli Cardwell and Reed each recorded an assist.

The Ladycats outscored their district opponents 57-10 in 10 games. The only loss was 3-2 setback to Jacksonville in the second game of the district schedule. Whitehouse reeled off eight consecutive wins to finish the regular season.
