Whitehouse Independent School District school board member Dr. Howard Patterson tendered his resignation as Place 2 trustee on Wednesday, July 18. The board, meeting in closed session Tuesday, July 24, officially accepted the resignation.
Patterson cited the fact that his daughter was applying for a position within WISD as his reason for leaving, according to WISD Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran.
Patterson, who joined the Whitehouse ISD school board in 2004, is employed as Director of Athletics at UT-Tyler.
On July 24, WISD trustees met to discuss whether or not to call a special election or make an appointment to the Place 2 position. Any appointee would fill the seat until the next regularly scheduled school board election in May, 2019. Four candidates had been discussed and were being considered by the board as replacements for Patterson, according to Moran.
It was decided that Greg Hood, who serves as board president, was to meet with prospective candidates for the open seat, Moran reported.
A special meeting of the board of trustees was scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, to determine whether Place 2 would be filled by special election or appointment.
