The Lady Tigers won their fifth consecutive District 15-3A volleyball match after they defeated Sabine in a hard-fought contest Friday, Oct. 6.
Troup also defeated Harmony earlier last week to move to 7-1 in district competition. The Lady Tigers had an opportunity to avenge their only loss in district action when they hosted Winona Tuesday, Oct. 10. Troup will play at Cumberland Academy at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and the Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Grace in non-district competition with action starting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17. The match with Grace also will be Senior Night.
The Lady Cardinals upset Troup in the first game of their match, 25-21. The loss was enough to jolt the Lady Tigers back into action, and they handily won the second game 25-12. Sabine did not go down easy in the final two games of the match. Troup had to work for a 25-22 win in the third game, and the Lady Tigers just did get by Sabine 25-23 to finish on top in the fourth game to grab the match victory.
Troup recorded 34 kills in the match, including a dozen for Asia Parker. Savanna Cox hit eight kills, Kori Minnix smacked five, Alex Flora and Natalie Davenport slugged three apiece, Jansen Reid hit two and Jayla Starks hit one.
Flora also belted a pair of ace serves and was in on 11 digs, while Minnix hit one ace serve, blocked two shots and had a team-high 18 digs. Cox hit an ace serve and recorded 15 digs, Reid had 14 digs and one assist and Davenport finished with eight digs and a team-high 23 assists. Parker blocked four shots and had a dig and Starks recorded two digs and two blocks.
Harmony was as stubborn a foe as was Sabine. Troup held on for a 25-22 win in the first game, but the Lady Eagles grabbed the momentum in the second game and finished with a 25-23 win over Troup. In the third game, each team worked hard for every point. The score was close throughout the game but Troup was able to edge Harmony 25-23.
The Lady Eagles were grounded in the fourth game and Troup caged harmony 25-16 to win the match. Parker and Minnix plucked the wings of the Lady Eagles during the match. Parker contributed a trio of ace serves, 15 kills, three blocks and seven digs, while Minnix added three ace serves, 14 kills and 20 digs to the team totals.
Reid finished with a team-high 29 digs and Davenport recorded 38 assists, 13 digs, seven kills and two ace serves. The Lady Tigers recorded 98 digs and 50 kills in the match.
Cox scored a dozen digs and six kills; Flora had three kills and eight digs; Cheyenne Henson contributed four kills and four digs; Alyssa Flora added four digs to the totals; and Starks finished with one kill and one dig.
Following the match with Grace, Troup will host Arp Friday, Oct. 20, and will conclude the regular season at West Rusk Tuesday, Oct. 24. Bi-district matches will be played Oct. 30-31.
