BISD athletic department to host upcoming informative meetings

Parents of athletes looking to participate in various sports at both Bullard High School and Bullard Middle School will have the opportunity to have their questions answered during a couple of upcoming meetings.

Bullard High School:

According to Bullard ISD Athletic Director and Panther football coach Scott Callaway, a meeting for all athletes wishing to play football for the Panthers at all levels this season is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, inside the BHS gymnasium.

“Summer has gone fast,” said Callaway. “We’re getting ready to start a new school year here at Bullard ISD, which means the kickoff of another season on the gridiron for Panther football. We are very excited about the level of talent that will be in our program this season, as well as the addition of several new coaches who will help to better our teams. We’re ready to get started.”

Callaway said the meeting for athletes and their parents or guardians is not mandatory, but will provide answers to questions before the season takes off.

“It’s a very informative meeting,” said Callaway. “We’re going to go over the expectations we have for our athletes , fill out paperwork, and a chance for the parents to ask me or any of the other football coaches on staff any questions they may have. It’s also an opportunity to allow our parents to meet the new coaches and be able to put names with faces.”

Callaway also said he and the coaching staff will go over practice schedules for the month of August and for football season, as well as game schedules.

Additionally, football equipment will be issued to the freshman football players at the close of the meeting.

Bullard Middle School:

Like its high school counterpart, the Bullard Middle School athletic program will host an information meeting regarding all sports for the 2017-2018 school year, regardless of sport, to be held Thursday, Aug. 16.

The meeting will be divided into two sessions, with eighth grade athletes meeting from 5-5:30 p.m., while athletes entering seventh grade will meet from 7:30-8 p.m.

Male athletes and their parents or guardians will meet inside of the BMS gymnasium, while the meeting for female athletes will take place inside the BMS cafeteria.

According to BMS Boys Athletic Coordinator Keith Ellis, the new school year allows for a mix of new and returning talent for the athletic program.

“It’s always exciting to start another athletic year,” said Ellis. “Each year, you have a new group that comes in – sixth grades that are becoming seventh graders – as well as returning talent – seventh graders that are becoming eighth graders. We’re excited to see how our returning athletes have progressed, and for the talent level of our new athletes.”

During the meeting, Ellis said the focus will be on promoting the athletic program at BMS, while also answering parents’ question, helping out with necessary paperwork, and speaking about expectations on the athletes.

“This meeting isn’t just for football and volleyball – it’s for all athletes at BMS,” said Ellis. “It’s a very important meeting that will allow us to start the year right with little to no questions going into the year. We want to start the year off right and get going.”

Ellis will be leading the meeting for the BMS male athletes, while BMS Girls Coordinator Nanci Dixon will lead the meeting for the female athletes.
