Members of the Brook Hill Guard and Lady Guard varsity track and field teams were on hand last week to compete for a shot of advancing to the sport’s largest stage by competing at the 2018 TAPPS 5A North Regional Track and Field Meet, held Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28, at Lancaster ISD’s Beverly D Humphrey Tiger Stadium.
Thanks to their strong finishes at the Regional event, a total of five athletes will now represent Brook Hill at the upcoming TAPPS State Track and Field Championships, to be held Thursday through Saturday, May 3-5, at Waco Midway ISD.
In the boys’ 100 meter dash race, the Guard track team will advance Sam Nechi to the State meet after finishing in fourth place at the Regional meet with a time of 11.22.
Ke’Airra Christopher will take part in two races at State after finishing the Regional girls’ 400 meter dash with a time of 58.85, allowing her to claim a second place finish, as well as a third place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.18.
In the girls’ high jump event, Grace Brasher jumped a height of 4’-10” at the Regional meet, allowing her to finish in first place and claim her credentials for the State meet.
Garrett Davis proved to have what it takes to compete at the next level of competition by finishing the Regional event’s boys’ high jump in second place with a leap of 6’-0”, qualifying him to compete at State.
The final Brook Hill athlete to make their way to the upcoming State contest is Sarah Walker, who soared through the air at a height of 8’-0” in the girls’ pole vault at the Regional meet, procuring a third place finish.
A total of four other Brook Hill varsity track and field team members saw action at the 2018 TAPPS 5A North Regional Track and Field Meet, but failed to advance to the State event.
In the girls’ 100 meter dash race, the Lady Guard’s Sabrina Ramey was able to speed her way down the track and across the finish line in fifth place with a time of 13.31.
Nia Carter competed for Brook Hill in the girls’ discus competition, claiming a sixth place finish with a toss of 87’-07 ¾”.
Along with Walker, Grace Helmers also competed at the 2018 TAPPS 5A North Regional Track and Field Meet’s pole vault contest, finishing in sixth place with a height of 7’-0”.
Sarah Nwosu saw action for Brook Hill in the girls’ shot put contest, throwing a distance of 30’-01”, allowing her to take home a seventh place finish.
The Brook Hill Guard varsity track and field team finished the 2018 TAPPS 5A North Regional Track and Field Meet in 12th place with a team total score of 13 points, while the Lady Guard varsity track and field team claimed an eighth place finish with a team score of 42 points.
