Brook Hill preparing for “A Night in Oz”

The Brook Hill School is preparing to transport guests to the scene of one of the most famous motion pictures, as the school will host its annual Auction and Dinner fundraiser event, entitled “A Night in Oz,” slated for Friday, April 20, at Kiepersol Bushman’s Celebration Center, located at 1565 FM 2493 E., in Bullard.

“This is a first time that we have held a traditional dinner and auction event all at one place in the past three years,” said Laurie Humphries, Brook Hill Director for Advancement. “We’re going to have the event at Bushman’s this year, which was generously donated for us to use for the event. Currently, we’re expecting about 350 people to attend and have a great night with us.”

The theme for the event, “A Night in Oz,” is taken from the 1939 MGM classic, “The Wizard of Oz,” as it incorporates the theme of the iconic yellow brick road and green pillars of the Emerald City of Oz.

“We really liked the theme,” said Humphries. “The Wizard of Oz is a classic movie and with the event being a semi-formal event, we thought the theme and atmosphere really worked well together.”

Kicking off the festivities for the event will be a silent auction, with approximately 60 different items up for bids, according to Brook Hill Associate Director of Special Events Patricia Danley.

Items included in the silent auction include, but are not limited to: opportunities to serve as a football captain for the Brook Hill Guard varsity football team, various parking spots around the campuses, chance to serve as prince and princess at Brook Hill’s Homecoming, a chance for a Christmas party for 20 people at the American Freedom Museum, and more.

Also at the event, a number of items will hit the auction block for the live auction, with items including, but not limited to: an ultimate birthday party with a live kangaroo, car line fast passes, senior “capture the night” photography at graduation, reserved seating for 16 people to attend the school’s 2018 “The Sound of Music” musical with pre-show hors d’oeuvres and a “meet the cast” opportunity, dinner at founder Steve Dement’s house, and a surprise donation from Brook Hill Headmaster Rod Fletcher, among other items.

The event will also feature a chance drawing for $5,000 off student tuition, with tickets costing $100 each or six tickets for $500. According to information from Brook Hill, the chance drawing must net the school a total of $10,000, or the drawing becomes a 50/50 split between the winner and the school. The winner of the drawing does not need to be present to win.

Tickets for the Brook Hill Auction and Dinner will range from $50 per guest for the main event starting at 7 p.m., up to $125 per guest for the 6 p.m. sneak preview and hors d’oeuvres reception.

Additionally, Dinner and Auction Table sponsorships are available at a cost of $600, allowing for eight seats at each table.

All proceeds from Brook Hill’s “A Night in Oz” Auction and Dinner will benefit The Brook Hill Fund, which supports financial aid, faculty and staff salaries, academic programs, and campus activities that enrich each student’s experiences, all while helping to keep the total cost of tuition manageable for Brook Hill families.

“The Brook Hill Fund is the heartbeat of our school,” said Humphries. “It goes to cover everything, from the cost of tuition through financial aid assistance, teacher salaries, and even the light bill. When we have a healthy Brook Hill Fund, we have a healthy school.”
