DPS officials close, open new driver’s license office in Jacksonville

In preparation for the opening of a new Texas Department of Public Safety Driver’s License Office that will potentially serve drivers in the area, officials closed down the office’s former location in Jacksonville, while opening the city’s new office days later.

DPS permanently closed the former Driver License Office, located at 506 East Pine St. in Jacksonville on Friday, Oct. 27. The new office, located at 2028 East Rusk St., will open for its first day of service at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1.

The new Jacksonville DPS Driver’s License Office will be nearly 3,000 square feet and feature queuing technology, allowing customers to claim a spot in line online before arriving at the office.

To take advantage of the new queuing technology, drivers are encouraged to take time and visit

www.dps.texas.gov/administration/driver_licensing_control/rolodex/getinlineonline when the office officially opens.

Many Texans are eligible to skip the trip to a local driver license office altogether, instead, take advantage of online services for driver license and identification card renewals, duplicates or address changes by visiting Texas.gov. Customers can also renew by phone at 1-866-357-3639.

For driver’s license renewals and address changes, whether in person, online, or via phone, drivers will need a valid credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express), a current Texas driver license or identification card, and their Social Security number.

Fees for services through DPS regarding licenses and identification cards include $25 for renewal of driver license (with or without changing address), $16 for renewal of identification card (with or without changing address), $33 for renewal of driver license with motorcycle (with or without changing address), and $11 for change of address only for driver license or identification cards.

DPS reminds drivers they may renew their driver’s license and/or Texas identification cards as early as one year prior to their expiration date, allowing them to choose a convenient time that fits their schedule.
