Elmer Lee Stripling


Elmer Lee Stripling, age 92, died peacefully Saturday, May 14th, 2017 at Clyde Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham, Texas.

Elmer Lee was born on June 14, 1924 and is a veteran of World War II where he fought in hand to hand combat the in the Asiatic Pacific. His bravery was displayed in many of his harrowing stories of the war, including various battles in the Philippines and his tale of watching the atomic bomb blast while anchored off the coast of Japan.

He was born and raised in Teaselville, TX where he lived his entire life until he relocated to the Veterans Home in Bonham in 2014. The wonderful staff at Clyde Cosper loved and “treasured” Elmer Lee.

As a child, he learned the skills of woodworking and enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. After an honorable discharge from the Army in 1945, he enrolled in Tyler Junior College where he studied cabinetmaking and made it his lifelong career until retirement.

Mr. Stripling is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews. His wife and love of his life, Effie Jean Stripling preceded him in death in 1995.

A memorial service for Mr. Stripling will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Bullard.
