Helen Pike Neeley peacefully passed away at the age of 94 at her home on May 17, 2018, surrounded by family and close friends.
She was born in Tyler on February 18, 1924, grew up in Bullard where she met the love of her life, James Clifford Neeley. They lived in Houston and moved to Longview in the early 1950s.
Helen was known for her contagious smile and entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she was the forever servant to everyone combined with her nurturing love and constant faith. Her favorite roles in life were being a wife, mother and “Mammaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed reading her Bible, watching her birds, sitting out in the sunshine, watching her beloved Texas Rangers baseball, being with family, and playing with those ever perfect grandsons.
Helen graduated from Bullard High School and Tyler Commercial College. She was a charter member of Bullard Eastern Star and a leader in every school and outside event in which her children participated.
She grew up in Bullard Methodist Church, attended Wesley Methodist Church once they moved to Longview, and in her later years, joined First Baptist Church.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents, Dewey and Mae D. Pike; infant daughter, Evelyn Jo; and sister, Mary Pugh.
She is survived by her children, Jimmy Neeley (wife Kay) of Rockwall, and Vickie Neeley Brewer (husband Wayne) of Longview; grandson, Barry Brewer (wife Lauren) of Longview; granddaughter, Brittany Brewer Garland (husband Chase) of Prosper; great-grandsons, Grayson Garland, Beckham Brewer, Brennan Brewer, and Barrett Brewer. She is also survived by much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that were also part of her family.
Our family holds dear and are forever grateful for her daughters-by-friendship Pat Akins Leslie and Charlene Akins Montana. Words cannot express how much we have loved her caregivers over the last several years: Lucy DeLaCruz, Elisa Galan, Chelsea Hardesty, Carolyn Clay, and Judy Gillentine. Thank you for loving her as your own.
Services for Helen were held Monday, May 21 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. A graveside service was held following the service at Bullard Community Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Student Ministry of First Baptist Church, Longview.
