Lady Guard fall short against Troup in season-opener

The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity basketball team began the 2017-2018 season last week, as the team traveled the short distance to Troup for their season-opener against the Troup Lady Tigers Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Troup High School.

In the first quarter of play, the home team Lady Tigers prowled their way ahead to capture the contest’s early momentum, using their strong offensive and defensive abilities to outscore the visiting Lady Guard, 9-0.

Troup continued to outpace Brook Hill in the second quarter of the contest, scoring a total of 13 points, while limiting the Lady Guard to just five points of offensive production. At the halftime intermission, Troup led Brook Hill, 22-5.

After returning to the court for the second half of action, the Lady Tigers and the Lady Guard came out of the locker rooms with determination and grit; however, Troup was able to remain in control, outscoring Brook Hill, 17-2, in the game’s third quarter.

In the final frame, the teams were more evenly matched up, as the home team Troup collected four points, compared to the two points gathered by Brook Hill.

At the final buzzer of the contest, the Troup Lady Tigers used their well-rounded game plan to claim the victory in the district-opener against the Brook Hill Lady Guard, 43-9.

The Lady Guard was led in scoring against the Lady Tigers by Grace Helmers, scoring a total of three points in the contest.

Other significant contributors for Brook Hill against Troup included Kaitlyn Rhea, with two points; Mary Roberts, with two points; and Alyssa Luker, with two points.

With the loss to the Troup Lady Tigers, the Brook Hill lady Guard varsity basketball team has started the 2017-2018 regular season with a record of 0-1.
