Lady Panthers remain perfect in district play with clean-sweeps over Kilgore, Spring Hill

In Class 4A Region 2 District 15 play last week, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity volleyball team continued their prowl through their 2017 schedule, as the team played the part of host for a district battle against the Kilgore Lady Bulldogs Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Bullard's Panther Gymnasium.

 The home team Lady Panthers and visiting Lady Bulldogs both showed their sharp teeth as the teams scuffled to control the momentum of the district contest early. Bullard's offensive attack allowed the team to break away from the holds of Kilgore, en route to claiming the first set win in the contest, 25-18.

In the second set, Bullard's strong offensive attributes were on full display, overwhelming and confusing the Kilgore squad and allowing the home team Lady Panthers to race ahead with a second set victory over the Lady Bulldogs, 25-9.

With an opportunity to collect a three-set sweep over their district opponent, the Lady Panthers looked to close out the contest against Kilgore quickly. As both teams battled back-and-forth in the third frame, Bullard created separation thanks to their strong play on both sides of the ball, en route to claiming the district match's victory in three sets, 25-18, 25-9, 25-17.

The Lady Panthers were led by the play of sophomore outside hitter Sara McKeethan, collecting a total of 15 kills, nine digs, and one ace in the district battle against the Lady Bulldogs.

Other significant contributors for the Lady Panthers against the Lady Bulldogs included senior setter Destinee Dixon, with 17 assists and five digs; sophomore setter Kylie McKeethan, with 10 assists and six digs; senior defensive specialist Kailan Bellew, with eight digs and one ace; freshman outside hitter/right side hitter Keili Richmond, with eight aces, eight digs, and five kills; and junior middle blocker Ashlyn Meador, with five blocks and five kills.

Bullard def. Spring Hill 25-20, 25-20, 25-21

For their second district bout of the week, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity volleyball team loaded the bus and hit the road for a catfight showdown against the Longview Spring Hill Lady Panthers Friday, Oct. 6, at Spring Hill High School.

The opening set of the contest featured a fight for control, as both teams were able to capitalize on offensive opportunities against each other. Despite the stalemated affair to begin the set, Bullard moved ahead new the end, claiming the first set win, 25-20.

In the second set of play, Bullard and Spring Hill continued to scratch and claw at each other, using their offensive and defensive schemes in hopes of confounding their opponent. However, the visiting Bullard squad again pushed back against the home team Spring Hill team, claiming the win in the second set, 25-20.

With an opportunity to sweep another district opponent, Bullard's strong offensive power was met by Spring Hill's valiant defensive efforts. Despite the attempt to force the district contest into extra sets by Spring Hill, Bullard's offensive power overwhelmed their opponent, en route to Bullard sweeping Spring Hill in three sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21.

Again, Sara McKeethan served as the leader for the Bullard squad, amassing a total of 16 kills and 12 digs in Bullard's winning efforts.

Other significant contributors for Bullard against Spring Hill included Richmond, with 12 digs and nine kills; Dixon, with 18 assists and 11 digs; and Bellew, with 11 digs.

With a 2-0 record in district play last week, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity volleyball team currently stands with an overall record of 23-10, 6-0 in district play.
