Panther soccer splits contests against Lindale JV, Carthage

To begin a new week of play, the Bullard Panther varsity soccer team loaded the bus and made its way to Lindale High School for a bout against the Lindale Eagles’ junior varsity team Monday, Feb. 26.

The visiting Panthers’ offense proved to effectively prowl past the home team Eagles’ defense throughout the contest, as a total of five goals were kicked by Bullard past the Lindale goalie.

Defensively, the Panthers were able to withstand the offensive attack of the Eagles late, as Lindale could only put four goals into the net, coming just one goal shy, as Bullard claimed the victory, 5-4.

In the contest against the Eagles, the Panthers were led by the strong sure kick of senior midfielder Will McCowin, collecting a total of four goals. Sophomore midfielder Christian Johnson was credited with the remaining Panther goal.

Bullard players attributed with assists in the contest against Lindale included freshman midfielder Christian Moore, McCowin, junior midfielder Fabian Jimenez, and sophomore midfielder Arne Goetz.

In the goal for Bullard, sophomore goalkeeping duo Pedro Rodriguez and Caleb Carmichael were each credited with three saves.

After adding the victory against the Lindale Eagles’ junior varsity team, the Bullard Panther varsity soccer team continued to advance through its schedule, traveling to take on the Carthage Bulldogs Friday, March 2, at Carthage High School.

Offensively, the squad from Bullard was able to put up a strong showing against Carthage, as a total of three goals were kicked in for the Panthers against the Bulldogs’ goalie.

However, the home team Carthage proved to be stronger than the Bullard defense. The Bulldogs bit back against the Panthers, netting a total of seven goals, allowing Carthage to claim the win over Bullard, 7-3.

The offensive prowl of Bullard’s McCowin proved to be the most effective against the defense of Carthage, as he was credited with a hat trick, amassing all three Panther goals scored during the contest.

Sophomore Pedro Rodriguez saw the most action in the goalie box for the Panthers, collecting a total of nine saves in the contest against the Bulldogs, while sophomore goalkeeper Jesus Oliveros grabbed one save.

With a record of 1-1 last week, the Bullard Panther varsity soccer team currently stands with an overall record of 4-12-1 on the 2017-2018 season.
